Emotional intelligence

“Emotional Intelligence is the ability to monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour” -Peter Salovey and John Mayer. 

 Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage emotions of oneself and of others and use emotions to facilitate decision making and guide actions. 

 Daniel Goleman identified 5 main EI constructs-  

  • Self-awareness 
  • Self-regulation 
  • Social skill 
  • Empathy  
  • Motivation
