The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has launched the Light House Projects challenge. Under this challenge, States/ UTs will select six sites across India for constructing the Lighthouse projects under GHTC-India. The selected sites for lighthouse projects will be used as an ‘open laboratory’ for live demonstration of advanced technologies. Lighthouse projects mean model projects.
Global Housing Technology Challenge-India was launched in January 2019. It aims to transform the eco-system of housing construction sector in India through lighthouse projects built using advanced proven technologies. The challenge has three components: a) Conduct of Grand Expo-cum-Conference, b) Identifying Proven Demonstrable Technologies from across the globe and c) Promoting Potential Technologies through the establishment of Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators- India (ASHA-I) for incubation and accelerator support.
The challenge is an initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U). PMAY-U aims to construct 1.2 crore houses and ensure “Housing for All by 2022” by providing financial assistance to the beneficiaries. It has four components: a) In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR), b) Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), c) Beneficiary-led Individual house construction or Enhancement (BLC), and d) Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).
