Sympathy

Sympathy is a feeling of pity, sadness and sorrow for someone else’s suffering. In sympathy the suffering of others is judged from agent’s own point of view.

Sympathy differs from empath in a sense that in empathy there is unconditional positive regard and non-judgemental behaviour toward others.

In empath the agent feels the suffering of other by “being in their shoes.”
