UAE’s Tabreed to build India’s first district cooling system in Amaravati

  1. A UAE-based international cooling provider, Tabreed, has entered into a 30-year concession with Andhra Pradesh government to offer District Cooling solutions at Amravati, the de facto capital of Andhra Pradesh.
  2. This will be the first district cooling system in India.District cooling system distributes thermal energy in the form of chilled water from a central source to multiple buildings through a network of underground pipes for use in space cooling.
  3. Amravati is conceptualised as a Greenfield city along the river Krishna in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Greenfield projects are those on the unused lands where there is no need to remodel or demolish an existing structure.
  4. It is being constructed to serve as the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh post division of Andhra Pradesh to form the new state Telangana in 2014. Hyderabad, the erstwhile capital of Andhra Pradesh, was transferred to Telangana as part of the division. However, in accordance with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Hyderabad remains the de jure capital of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states for a period of time not exceeding 10 years
